The Municipal Company “Águas do Porto” successful management has been acknowledged at international level.

As of the “Amsterdam International Water Week”, which was held in the Dutch capital early November, the company from Porto joined the LUOW – Leading Utilities Of the World network, composed of 50 managing water supply and/or wastewater sanitation systems.

The formal integration at LUOW was followed by the delivery of the Golden Tap Trophy to “Águas do Porto”, during the new members presentation ceremony, on occasion of the Amsterdam International Water Week.

Porto had already been recognised by its solutions for management of the integrated urban water cycle in the city, which took place in Singapore, in the course of the “Year in Infrastructure 2019 Awards“, which brings together the leading projects promoted by Bentley Systems, Inc., the world leader regarding the development of design technological applications, construction, and infrastructure operation.

The H2PORTO – The Technological Platform for Urban Water Cycle, was one of the nine projects to be granted the Special Recognition Awards, which has also recognised entities from cities such as Genova, Birmingham, Karachi, Shenzhen, Jiyuan and Harbin City, as well as Hong Kong Administrative Region, for its sustainable solutions and urban infrastructure resilience.

The “Águas do Porto” has also conquered the international prize Water Visionary Award at the New Civil Engineering Tech Fest for its innovative H2PORTO platform, which was granted in London by the “New Civil Engineering”.

About H2PORTO

The H2PORTO platform consists of a monitoring and control system for all urban water cycle steps in the municipality of Porto, namely water supply, urban, beach and streams waste-water drainage, one of its major benefits being the possibility to gather information, report any unusual occurrences and real-time remote management.

This system is unique in the country and it enables pollution monitoring so as to anticipate flooding and pollution occurrences, adjusting both teams and networks.

Moreover, H2PORTO offers clients useful information, namely when it is necessary to shut off the water supply in a given street.

During the bathing season, the platform of the “Águas do Porto” also provides mupis in beach areas with information on the quality of water.
